My practice embodies the process of foraging for natural materials and waste, such as onion skins, eggshells, leaves, glass, human hair and fur, to plunge viewers into an unsettlingly gripping space. Engaging directly with my hands, I enjoy feeling the textures and forms take shape, allowing the materiality to dictate the process until an outcome is reached organically. I avoid fixating on an outcome because it is the process that truly drives my work. I work to lure viewers into a space, presenting elegant handmade paper sculptures, and create a shift in how the work makes you feel; A shift to an eerie/disturbing experience utilising the potential of hair as a materiality. Hair acts as a symbol of life and death. It is like a memory people keep safe. However, feelings of disgust associated with hair blocking drains and clogging hairbrushes inspires me to explore creating installations that fascinate and seduce viewers while unnerving them and leaving an eerie/uncomfortable feeling as they attempt to leave the space.
